This bill creates a new criminal offense in the Texas Penal Code for the unlawful possession or transfer of a "large-capacity magazine," defined as a detachable ammunition feeding device with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. The offense is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000. The bill provides an exception for peace officers and members of the armed forces or state military forces acting in the course of their official duties. The new law takes effect on September 1, 2021.
