This bill requires long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes and assisted living residences, to annually review each resident's "proxy directive." A proxy directive is a written document that designates an adult with decision-making capacity to act as the resident's representative if the resident is later determined to lack decision-making capacity. The bill does not require residents to have or maintain a proxy directive, but if a resident has one, the long-term care facility must meet with the resident at least once a year to ensure the directive is accurate and current.
