This bill amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow misdemeanants confined in jail or prison before sentencing to receive credit towards the payment of any fines or costs imposed, at a rate of $200 per day of confinement. The bill also requires the court to provide certain information to defendants, including notice that they may be entitled to such credit, before issuing an arrest warrant for failure to appear. The provisions of the bill apply to defendants sentenced on or after the effective date of September 1, 2021, regardless of when the offense was committed.
