This bill amends the Code of Laws of South Carolina to provide 12 weeks of paid family leave for state employees due to the birth, adoption, or fostering of a child. Eligible state employees who give birth are entitled to 6 weeks of paid leave, while other eligible employees who do not give birth are entitled to 2 weeks of paid leave. The leave must be taken within 12 months of the qualifying event and cannot be donated or accumulated. The bill also specifies how the leave must be used, including that it runs concurrently with other leave and does not affect the employee's accrued leave balance. The Division of Human Resources is required to promulgate regulations to implement this new provision.
