This bill, the Wildfire Recovery Act, aims to amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act to provide more flexibility with the cost share for fire management assistance. Specifically, the bill sets the federal share of assistance under the Stafford Act's fire management assistance provision at no less than 75% of the eligible cost. Additionally, the bill requires the President, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator and in consultation with relevant federal agencies, to conduct a rulemaking to develop guidelines and a rule that establish thresholds for cases where the federal cost share can be increased, using a fire-specific metric to determine fire damage.
