This bill amends the Public Health Law to require that facilities certified for enhanced assisted living or special needs assisted living have a registered nurse on staff. The registered nurse must be on-site for at least one shift per day, five days per week, and their primary duties will be to coordinate resident care, provide ongoing assessment and monitoring, and ensure residents are receiving appropriate care. Existing enhanced and special needs assisted living facilities will have 18 months to comply with the new registered nurse staffing requirement. The bill also specifies that a resident's physician and the facility's staff registered nurse must both determine that the facility can safely and appropriately meet the resident's needs for the resident to continue aging in place.
