This bill provides for intervention by certain campus security personnel in relation to reportedly mentally ill students and notification to person or persons to be contacted in case of such mental health emergency. Specifically, the bill allows teachers, administrators, or students to report a student exhibiting mentally ill behavior to campus security, who can then exercise the powers given to peace officers under the mental hygiene law. The institution must then immediately notify the appropriate emergency contact listed on the student's records after removing the student. The bill also requires schools and colleges to inform all students of this provision at the time of acceptance and entry to the institution.
