This bill alters the circumstances under which an employer is authorized to require an employee who uses certain sick and safe leave to provide verification that the leave was used appropriately. The bill also authorizes certain employers to deny a request to take certain sick and safe leave under specific circumstances. Specifically, the bill allows an employer to require verification if the leave was used for more than two consecutive scheduled shifts or if the employee used the leave during the first 107 to 120 calendar days of employment and the employer provided written notice about the verification requirement at the time of hire. If the employee fails to provide the required verification, the employer may deny a subsequent request to take the same sick and safe leave.
