This bill establishes the State Task Force on Campus Safety in New York. The task force will conduct a thorough examination and review of the status of safety and emergency preparedness at college campuses and universities within the state, and propose a central operation to coordinate efforts and disseminate information during and immediately following an emergency. The task force will also develop standard guidelines and procedures for campus administrations to deal with episodes of mental illness occurring on campus. The task force will consist of 11 members appointed by the governor and will have the power to request assistance and data from state and local government agencies. The task force will report its findings and recommendations to the governor, Senate, and Assembly within 6 months of its first meeting, and the provisions of the act will expire and be repealed on December 31st of the year following its enactment.
