This bill establishes the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program to provide temporary benefits to a covered individual who is taking leave from employment for various reasons, including to care for a child, family member with a serious health condition, or service member. Beginning in January 2022, employees, employers, and self-employed individuals participating in the program will be required to contribute to the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Fund. Beginning in July 2023, covered individuals may submit claims for benefits. The bill also includes provisions regarding administration, private employer plans, prohibited acts, and appeals.
