This bill allows pregnant inmates to have at least one support person of their choosing accompany them in the delivery room and when in labor and recovering after giving birth. It also requires correctional facilities to inform pregnant inmates about their ability to apply to any nursery program run by the department and the locality, as well as inform them about pregnancy counseling services and the right to abortion services. The bill also prohibits the denial of a support person based solely on a past criminal conviction or their current probation, conditional release, parole, or post-release supervision status. Additionally, it requires written notice to be provided to inmates about these requirements upon admission and when known to be pregnant, and for the superintendent or sheriff to publish the notice in prominent locations where medical care is provided.
