This bill amends the Education Law to lower the compulsory age for full-time instruction from 6 years of age to 5 years of age. The bill also provides an exception where parents can elect not to enroll their child in school until the following school year if the child will turn 5 during the school year, provided they submit a written notice to the school district by April 1st. The bill also grants the Commissioner of Education the authority to prescribe the form of the notices and adopt regulations to implement this provision.
