Bill Summary
AN ACT Relating to the creation of health equity zones; adding a new section to chapter 43.70 RCW; and creating a new section.
AI Summary
This bill creates "health equity zones" in Washington state to address significant health disparities experienced by communities of color, Indigenous people, those living in poverty, and immigrant populations. The Department of Health, in coordination with local health jurisdictions and community organizations, will use population health data to identify or allow communities to self-identify these zones and develop targeted projects to meet their unique needs. The Department will provide technical support, help communities access resources, and evaluate the success of the projects over time. The goal is to improve health care access and services, build community trust, and implement policy changes to address the root causes of health inequities in these designated areas.
