This bill establishes limits on cost-sharing for podiatric services in group health coverage, individual and group health insurance policies, health maintenance organization contracts, and nonprofit health care plans in New Mexico. Specifically, the bill prohibits these plans from imposing a member cost-share for podiatric services that is greater than the cost-share for primary care services, either on a coinsurance percentage basis or on an absolute dollar amount when a copay is applied. The bill defines "podiatric services" as the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of ailments affecting the human foot and ankle, and "primary care services" as the first level of basic or general healthcare for a person's health needs.
