This bill eliminates certain restrictions on eligibility for unemployment benefits in New Mexico. It establishes that during a declared public health emergency, an individual's absence from work shall be presumed to be involuntary and for good cause, and they shall not be denied benefits in certain situations related to the emergency, such as exposure to or diagnosis with the communicable disease, the need to provide care for a family member, or the unavailability of usual child care. The bill also defines important terms like "family member" and "threatening communicable disease." Additionally, the bill disqualifies individuals from receiving benefits if they have received or applied for emergency paid sick leave or emergency paid family leave benefits from other state or federal programs. The bill declares an emergency and states that it shall take effect immediately.
