This bill requires any public officer or employee who handles or has custody of public funds, by virtue of their office or employment, to give an individual bond or be covered by a blanket bond. The amount of such bonds must not be less than $25,000 per public officer or employee, unless a specific amount is required by law. The bill excludes public officers or employees whose handling or custody of public funds is incidental to their job duties. The bonds must follow the form and content provided in state law. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2021.
