This bill prohibits law enforcement agencies from disciplining or discharging an officer solely due to the officer's inclusion on a "Brady list" - a list maintained by the county attorney's office that includes officers who may have impeached themselves as witnesses or failed to turn over exculpatory evidence. However, the bill allows agencies to still take disciplinary action against an officer based on the underlying actions that resulted in the officer being placed on the Brady list. The bill also establishes an interim legislative committee to study issues related to Brady lists, including the disclosure of information in officer personnel files, the implementation of a statewide Brady list system, and appropriate procedures and protections for placing officers on and removing them from such a list.
