This bill requires group health plans and health insurance issuers to cover the costs of scalp hair prostheses (wigs) worn for hair loss suffered as a result of alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, or alopecia universalis. The coverage must be provided without any less favorable dollar limits, deductibles, or coinsurance provisions than those for other prosthesis coverage under the plan or policy. However, the plan or issuer may choose to cover 80% of the customary and usual costs of the scalp hair prosthesis, exclusive of any deductible. The bill would apply to all policies, contracts, and certificates issued, renewed, modified, altered, or amended on or after January 1 of the year following the bill's enactment.
