This bill creates a temporary state commission to study and investigate the effects of closures of long-term care facilities on the residents of such facilities and their families. The commission will make recommendations for additional legislation and/or regulations to govern the closing of long-term care facilities and facilitate the relocation of long-term care facility residents in a manner that is in the best interests of the residents. The commission will consist of eleven members appointed by the governor, legislative leaders, and other state officials, and will have the power to conduct investigations, hold public hearings, and submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature within one year of its first meeting. The bill will remain in effect until one year after the commission's report is delivered.
