This bill amends Arizona's existing law on death certificate registration to require that the sex listed on a death certificate reflect the decedent's gender identity, unless a document memorializing the decedent's gender transition is provided. If no such document is provided and the person or majority of persons with the right to control the disposition of the remains disagrees with the reported gender identity, the decedent's gender identity recorded on the death certificate shall be as reported by that person or majority. The bill also outlines the process for amending the sex listed on a registered death certificate if a document memorializing a gender transition is later presented.
