This bill enacts the Mississippi Paid Family Leave Act, which is administered by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. The bill provides definitions, including for "employee," "employer," and "serious health condition." It entitles eligible employees to 12 weeks of paid leave for the birth or placement of a child, to care for a family member with a serious health condition, or due to the employee's own serious health condition. The bill allows for intermittent or reduced leave schedules in certain circumstances, and requires notice and certification from a healthcare provider. The bill also prohibits retaliation, establishes a complaint and enforcement process, and clarifies the relationship between this law and the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.
