This bill establishes the Safe Drinking Water Testing Fund, which is administered by the Department of the Environment. The fund is financed by a fee of $0.05 per thousand gallons of water produced by public water supply systems. The money in the fund is used to test public water supplies for contaminants, perform vulnerability assessments, and provide training for public water supply operators. The Taxation and Revenue Department is responsible for collecting the fee and depositing the funds, less an administrative fee, into the Safe Drinking Water Testing Fund. The bill also requires public water supply systems to register and comply with certain reporting requirements. The effective date of the bill is July 1, 2021.
