This bill amends the existing law to limit the use of out-of-school suspension or expulsion as a disciplinary method in public schools. It requires local school boards and charter school governing bodies to provide in their disciplinary policies that suspension or expulsion shall only be used as a last resort, following the exhaustion of interventions including restorative justice practices, and after considering factors such as student homelessness, foster care placement, or other adverse childhood experiences. The bill also prohibits the use of corporal punishment in schools and allows students to carry and self-administer certain prescribed medications.
