This bill requires the University of Nebraska to develop a strategic action plan to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events or climate change in Nebraska. The plan will include a baseline greenhouse gas emissions measurement, measurable benchmarks and goals, an assessment of risks and vulnerabilities, and opportunities for adaptation and mitigation strategies. The plan will also examine the impacts of climate change on various sectors, such as agriculture, water resources, healthcare, and commerce. The bill authorizes the transfer of up to $250,000 from the Petroleum Release Remedial Action Collection Fund to the University of Nebraska to develop the plan, which must be submitted to the Governor and the Legislative Council by December 15, 2022.
