This bill includes falsely reporting incidents in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of police officers to a particular address or location as a felony offense under the crime of falsely reporting an incident in the second degree. The existing law is amended to explicitly list this type of false reporting as a felony offense, in addition to the existing provisions around false reports of fires, explosions, or hazardous substance releases. The bill aims to address the practice of making false emergency calls for the purpose of drawing a large police response to a particular location.
