This bill prohibits the consideration of the deployment of motor carrier safety improvements when determining an individual's employment status (employee or independent contractor) with a motor carrier under any state law. The term "motor carrier safety improvement" is defined to include various devices, equipment, software, technologies, procedures, training, policies, programs, or operational practices that are intended to improve or facilitate compliance with traffic safety or motor carrier safety laws, or to enhance the safety of motor vehicles, their operators, or third-party users of highways. The bill aims to ensure that the use or implementation of such safety improvements by a motor carrier does not impact an individual's employment classification.
