This bill amends an existing law to require the New Mexico Sentencing Commission to evaluate the racial impact of certain proposed legislation. Specifically, the bill requires the Commission to prepare a fiscal impact statement that includes information on any unique or disproportionate impact, statistical analysis, unintended consequences, and impacts on correctional facilities, services, and recidivism rates for any race, gender, or sexual orientation of persons in the state, as well as the impact on each judicial district. This information is in addition to the existing requirement to assess the estimated change in annual operating costs for the corrections department.
