This bill appropriates $3 million from the general fund to the Public Education Department to contract with an organization that provides college and career readiness systems for grades K-12. The organization must have a proven track record of serving low-income, Hispanic, Native American, and African American students, as well as other underserved populations in New Mexico. The funding is intended to address long-term economic development through increased college and career readiness. The organization's program must include comprehensive professional learning, alignment with the state's education system, effective teaching strategies, and direct remedies to address opportunity gaps identified in the Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico lawsuit.
