This bill amends existing New Jersey law concerning liquor licenses to allow certain individuals with past criminal convictions to be employed by liquor licensees without needing special approval or permits. Specifically, it permits Class C liquor licensees to hire individuals convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude, provided those individuals do not engage in activities such as serving, selling, or preparing alcoholic beverages, or providing security or management services. This change excludes individuals convicted of sex offenses or crimes involving moral turpitude committed while working on licensed premises. The bill also clarifies that individuals convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude can be employed without director approval or a rehabilitation employment permit, as long as their duties are limited to non-customer-facing roles and do not involve the direct handling or preparation of alcoholic beverages.
