This bill would require the California Air Resources Board, in collaboration with the Natural Resources Agency and other relevant state agencies, to identify a 2045 climate goal with interim milestones for the state's natural and working lands to sequester carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The bill would also require the Board to integrate recommendations from the Natural Resources Agency and the Department of Food and Agriculture on practices, policies, and incentives to achieve this goal, as well as opportunities to enhance co-benefits such as protecting vulnerable communities and improving water and air quality. Additionally, the bill would require the Board to develop standard methods for tracking greenhouse gas emissions, reductions, and carbon sequestration from natural and working lands, and to update this information in subsequent scoping plan updates.
