This bill, known as "Jacobe's Law," amends the Education Law to require school employees, such as counselors, social workers, and administrators, to investigate and verify incidents of harassment, bullying, or discrimination. Upon verifying such incidents, the school employees must make a reasonable and good faith effort to contact the parents or guardians of the students involved, unless the student expresses a health, safety, or privacy concern, in which case the school employee will use their professional judgment to determine if contacting the parent or guardian is in the best interest of the student. The bill also provides immunity from civil liability for those who report such incidents in good faith or participate in related proceedings.
