This bill, known as the Fair Chance for Employment Act, prohibits employers and employment agencies from using an applicant's unemployment status as a factor in hiring or determining compensation. The Department of Labor and Industry has the authority to impose a penalty of up to $500 for violations of this prohibition. The bill provides exceptions for job postings that specify qualifications such as professional licenses, educational requirements, or relevant experience. The Act will take effect 90 days after it is passed.
