This bill amends existing law to prevent public agencies from disclosing the residential addresses of certain public officials and employees, even under the Freedom of Information Act, which is a law that generally grants the public access to government records. The individuals whose residential addresses are protected include judges at various court levels, sworn police officers and state troopers, correction officers, attorneys involved in criminal prosecutions or employed by the Public Defender Services Division, inspectors in the Division of Criminal Justice, firefighters, employees of the Department of Children and Families, members and employees of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, judicial branch employees, certain employees of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services who provide direct patient care, and members or employees of the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. However, their business addresses will still be subject to disclosure, and this protection does not apply to certain Department of Motor Vehicles records.
