AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to parole eligibility for certain incarcerated persons aged fifty-five or older
AI Summary
This bill amends the Executive Law to create a new parole eligibility process for incarcerated individuals who are 55 years old or older and have served at least 15 years of their sentence. It requires the Parole Board to conduct an interview within 60 days of the person's 55th birthday or the 15-year mark, whichever is later, to determine if the person should be released to community supervision. If release is not granted, the person must be reconsidered within 24 months. The bill also requires the Parole Board to submit quarterly reports on the number of interviews, outcomes, and reasons for denials. This new process is in addition to, and does not replace, other parole eligibility requirements.
