This bill amends Section 64.012(a) of the Texas Election Code to modify the elements of the offense of illegal voting. The bill specifies that a person commits an offense if they vote or attempt to vote in an election when they know they are not eligible to vote in that election. The bill also retains existing provisions that make it an offense to knowingly vote or attempt to vote more than once, vote a ballot belonging to another person or by impersonating another person, or mark or attempt to mark another person's ballot without their consent. The changes made by this bill only apply to offenses committed on or after the effective date of September 1, 2021.
