This bill amends the education law in relation to admissions to the specialized high schools in New York City. The key provisions include: 1. Admissions for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years will be based on a combination of class ranking, scholastic achievement exam scores, and a composite score calculated using multiple measures of student achievement. 2. For the 2024-2025 school year and beyond, admissions will be based on a student's class ranking (top 5-7% of their 8th grade class) and composite score, as well as a random selection process for remaining openings for students with a minimum 3.7 GPA. 3. The chancellor will determine the specific multiple measures of student achievement and their weights, which must be made publicly available. 4. A certain number of openings at each specialized high school will be reserved for the top-performing students based on the composite score criteria. 5. Admissions to arts-focused specialized high schools, like Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, will continue to be based on demonstrated abilities in music or the arts in addition to scholastic achievement.
