Bill Summary

AN ACT To ensure that goods made with forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China do not enter the United States market, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill, the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, aims to strengthen the prohibition on importing goods made with forced labor, particularly from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. It requires the development of a strategy to prevent such imports, establishes a rebuttable presumption that goods from Xinjiang or certain entities are made with forced labor, and directs diplomatic efforts to address forced labor in the region. The bill also amends the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act to enable sanctions on foreign persons responsible for human rights abuses related to forced labor. The bill's provisions are set to expire 8 years after enactment or when the President determines the Chinese government has ended mass internment, forced labor, and other human rights violations in Xinjiang.
