This bill amends the Health and Safety Code to require the State Fire Marshal to manage, rather than dispose of, dangerous fireworks that are seized. The bill eliminates the requirements imposed on the State Fire Marshal to dispose of the fireworks in the absence of legal proceedings. It requires the State Fire Marshal to ensure that any seized fireworks identified as hazardous waste are managed in accordance with California and federal hazardous waste laws and regulations, using only registered hazardous waste transporters and authorized hazardous waste facilities. The bill also eliminates the requirement for the State Fire Marshal to acquire and use statewide mobile dangerous fireworks destruction units.
