Bill Summary

AN ACT RELATING TO LIQUOR CONTROL; PROVIDING THAT A LOCAL OPTION DISTRICT MAY HOLD AN ELECTION TO ALLOW THE SALE BY CERTAIN RESTAURANT LICENSEES OF SPIRITUOUS LIQUORS DISTILLED AND BOTTLED IN NEW MEXICO.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Liquor Control Act to allow local option districts in New Mexico to hold an election to approve the sale of spirituous liquors distilled and bottled in New Mexico by certain restaurant licensees, in addition to the existing allowance for the sale of beer and wine. The bill also limits the geographic locations where these liquor licenses can be effective to designated areas within the local option district, such as enterprise zones, arts and cultural districts, or other areas identified as needing economic development. Additionally, the bill establishes a higher license fee for restaurants selling beer, wine, and spirituous liquors compared to those selling only beer and wine.
