This bill creates the crime of "Threatening a Public Official" in New Mexico. It prohibits threatening a public official, defined as a person elected or appointed to a government office or position, with the intent to cause them harm, place them in fear of great bodily harm, or prevent them from carrying out their job duties. The bill also retains existing provisions related to interfering with the activities of public officials, trespassing on government property, and damaging property, which remain misdemeanor offenses.
