This Joint Memorial requests the New Mexico Legislative Council to establish a Legislative Economic Policy Council. This new council will be composed of fifteen members, including legislative committee chairs or their designees, four public members with academic economic research backgrounds, five public members from business organizations, and four public members who are entrepreneurs or business owners, with a focus on geographic diversity across the state. The council is tasked with meeting at least four times before November 1, 2021, to exchange information and coordinate with various state agencies and interested parties. Members will not receive a salary but will be reimbursed for per diem and mileage expenses as allowed by law. By November 1, 2021, the council must submit a report to the legislature with findings and recommendations, including an economic analysis of at least two policy suggestions aimed at growing the state's economy. The memorial also directs that copies be sent to various state officials and the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce.
