This bill requires the Public Education Department to assist school districts in providing internet access to teachers statewide. The bill provides monthly financial assistance of up to $150 per teacher if they are using a Wi-Fi hotspot not provided by the school district, or up to $75 per teacher for regular internet services used for online lessons. School districts must provide the number of teachers needing assistance and receipts for internet expenses. The funds are only available for teachers who have not been provided a Wi-Fi hotspot by the district and are not teaching in-person, and the provisions apply only while the district is under COVID-19 restrictions or offering remote learning, from July 1, 2021 until the end of the declared public health emergency.
