This bill amends the Georgia State Indemnification Fund law to revise when indemnification shall be paid in instances of a heart attack, stroke, or vascular rupture suffered by a "public safety officer" (defined to include law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, etc.) resulting in certain disabilities or death. The bill establishes a presumption that such conditions are work-related if they occurred while the officer was performing work-related activities or within 24 hours thereof, unless competent medical evidence shows otherwise. The bill also clarifies that indemnification can be awarded in such cases, even if the underlying cause was natural causes or the performance of routine duties.
