This bill amends existing New Mexico law to make it unlawful to make a "shooting threat" in addition to the existing prohibition on making a "bomb scare." Specifically, the bill defines a "shooting threat" as falsely and maliciously stating to another person that the person making the threat or another person intends to bring a firearm to a property or use the firearm with the intent to place a person or group in fear of great bodily harm, prevent or interrupt the occupation or use of a public building, or cause an emergency response. The bill also allows courts to order restitution for economic harm caused by such threats.
