This bill amends Section 32-5A-176.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to define a "construction zone moving violation" and increase the penalties for such violations. Specifically, the bill requires that construction or maintenance workers be present, and there are work zone traffic control devices or warning signs, for a violation to be considered a construction zone moving violation. Upon conviction, the operator of the vehicle shall be assessed a fine of at least $250 or double the amount prescribed by law outside a construction zone. The bill also allows the Department of Transportation and county commissions to set construction zone speed limits and adopt rules to enforce the new provisions.
