This bill amends Sections 13A-12-213 and 13A-12-214 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to revise the crime of unlawful possession of marijuana. It reduces the penalties for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, making a first offense a Class C misdemeanor punishable only by a fine, and allows for the expungement of records related to charges, findings, or convictions for violating these sections if the person has not been convicted of any other felony, misdemeanor, or violation (excluding minor traffic violations) in the previous five years. The bill also specifies that all fines and forfeitures collected will be deposited into the State Treasury to the credit of the State General Fund.
