This bill caps the total amount of cost-sharing or co-pay that an insured or beneficiary is required to pay for a covered prescription insulin drug at $100 per 30-day supply, regardless of the amount or type of insulin needed. The cap applies to health benefit plans that provide coverage for prescription insulin drugs, but does not prevent plans from reducing the cost-sharing obligation further. The cap amount will increase annually based on the percentage change in the prescription drug component of the Consumer Price Index. The bill also amends existing laws to include a reference to the new insulin cost-sharing cap provision.
