This bill creates the position of Deputy Mine Inspector in New Mexico. The Deputy Mine Inspector will be assigned to the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and the board of regents and the mining safety board can recommend qualified individuals to the State Mine Inspector for appointment as the Deputy. The Deputy can assist the State Mine Inspector in performing their duties, and upon a vacancy in the State Mine Inspector position, the president of the Institute can recommend the Deputy as the new State Mine Inspector or temporarily assign the Deputy all the duties and responsibilities of the State Mine Inspector until a new one is appointed.
