This bill modifies the definition of "public official" in a city or county for the purposes of data practices. It expands the definition to include police or fire chiefs, public safety directors, managers, heads or directors of departments, divisions, bureaus, or boards who supervise two or more full-time employees, and equivalent positions. The bill also specifies that data relating to a complaint or charge against these officials is public only if the complaint results in disciplinary action or the employee resigns or is terminated while the complaint is pending, or if potential legal claims are released as part of a settlement agreement.
