This Resolution encourages the Department of Transportation to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Maui County Department of Transportation, the Hana Highway Regulation civil volunteer group, and large landowners like the Department of Hawaiian Homelands and East Maui Irrigation Company, to create a comprehensive management plan for Hana Highway. The goal of this plan is to ensure the highway, which is a historically significant and internationally renowned roadway known for its challenging terrain and increasing visitor traffic, is properly maintained and remains safe for both residents and visitors, addressing issues such as inadequate safety features, traffic congestion, and the strain on emergency services.
